SIDNE Go-Kart Program

Electric go-kart allows drivers and passengers to experience what can happen when they operate a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or marijuana, as well as the ramifications of driving while drowsy or distracted.

SIDNE – Simulated Impaired Driving Experience

This program is funded by the Portsmouth Prevention Coalition and operated by the Portsmouth Police Department. The Program will be made available first to organizations in the Town of Portsmouth, then to those in Newport County on a first come-first serve basis and finally to other jurisdictions in the area. Some of the events that SIDNE may be utilized are prom, homecoming, National Night Out, before graduation and Portsmouth Police Department Open House.

The Portsmouth Prevention Coalition hosted a presentation by the Portsmouth Police Department to introduce the SIDNE Go-Kart’s capabilities and the Fatal Vision® goggles which are used along with the go-kart.

Lieutenant Michael Morse and Patrolman James Thulier made a presentation to PPC regarding the Simulated Impaired Driving Experience® (SIDNE®) and the Fatal Vision® goggles.

Patrolman James Thulier gives instructions to Portsmouth High School Student Assistance Counselor Ashley Foster as she wears Fatal Vision® Alcohol Goggles, simulating the effects of being under the influence of alcohol.

Lieutenant Morse and Patrolman Thulien assist Ms. Foster as she performs a basic field sobriety test wearing Fatal Vision® alcohol goggles.
